Navy Public Works
Center in San Diego:
This organization provides broad support for all Navy bases in San
Diego. After the initial strategic planning process with senior
management and operational planning down through the various
departments, the ongoing efforts continued for more than 3 years.
These efforts included high involvement between management and the
workforce as well as downsizing, streamlining, automating,
de-bureaucratizing and developing more open communications.
Bell
Communications Research:
This organization, which is roughly half of the old Bell Labs, had
just a few years to move from a traditional technology research
institute to a market-driven consulting firm. This effort involved a
great deal of training. For almost 2 years, UA conducted strategic
planning training for upper and middle management every 6-8 weeks. The
intent was to develop a management cadre more capable of forging a
strategic future. In addition, a number of internal staff were trained
to be "new culture champions".
A fifty-year old, privately held food company sought
strategic and operational planning assistance from UA.
Incidentally, this was the first time for a formalized
high-involvement planning process. This led to a continuum of work
including training and coaching to foster the new culture. This
engagement went on for approximately 3 years. The company's annual
revenues are now over $1,000,000,000.00 per year.
