WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This three-day workshop is designed to help Organization and/or Human Resource Development Consultants increase or develop their knowledge of the concepts underlying team building. The workshop is designed for those individuals who are not members of the team with which they are trying to do the team building.


OVERVIEW

This workshop provides an opportunity to increase your skills as a team builder using a consultative approach rather than depending on training techniques for building teams. The workshop treats team building as an organization development intervention.
Participants will focus on the skills necessary to help a team develop clarity about how well it is functioning and what it needs to increase its effectiveness. They will learn key concepts and models relating to team building as a consultative process. An effective sequence for team building consultation will be introduced in order to increase awareness of the advantages of this consultative approach over the use of "training techniques".


LEARNING CONTENT AREAS

Day One of the workshop covers the following topics:

  • Defining the difference between a group and a team

  • Sharing past team building experiences and anxieties

  • Evaluating if a team is ready for team building

  • Team building as a process consultation or organizational intervention

  • Identifying a model for team building

  • Overview of the 12 Consulting Steps

  • Consultative team building vs. team building as a training intervention

  • Contracting for a team building consultation

Day Two of the workshop focuses on the following topics:

  • Orienting the team for team building

  • Assessing the team's diagnostic tools

  • Using a sensing interview as an assessment technique

  • Team Building Simulation

  • Form consulting teams

  • Develop scenario providing another team the opportunity to consult with you

  • Practice contracting for doing team building

  • Develop questions for data gathering interviews

  • Interview

Day Three of the workshop focuses on constructive feedback and self-evaluation with the following topics:

  • Preparing the data for feedback to the "Client Group"

  • Presenting data to "Client"

  • Evaluating your Team Building efforts and identify useful learnings

  • Assessing action items as opportunities to enhance their effectiveness
